•$189,600 - $318,300

About The Position

The Electro-Optical Validation Director ensures sub-assemblies and blades are validated according to plan. The role leads characterization, testing, binning, and failure analysis for next-generation high-speed electro-optical modules based on silicon photonics for quantum computing applications. The Director defines the global validation strategy for next-generation products, from proof of concept for new test methodologies and early designs through high-volume manufacturing. The role also manages and develops the validation team, oversees validation execution and reporting, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to inform product development and resolve issues. The position is based within one of four U.S. geographic pay zones; the posting does not specify a particular work location or workplace arrangement.

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience validating and testing optical systems.
  • 5+ years of team and people management experience; director-level experience preferred.
  • Proven record leading validation and failure analysis of high-speed electro-optical hardware products, such as high-speed optical transceivers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and technical experts.
  • Direct experience validating silicon photonics assemblies, advanced optical modules, or multi-chip co-packaged systems.
  • Expertise with high-speed electro-optical devices and test equipment, such as electro-optical modulators, RF detectors, pulsed lasers, and optical real-time oscilloscopes.
  • Expertise with high-speed and optical equipment, including Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), Digital Communication Analyzers (DCAs), Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSAs), and Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs).
  • Expertise debugging RF electronics, electro-optical driving architectures, embedded firmware, and real-time logic.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development and execution of comprehensive characterization, verification, and validation plans for electro-optical multiplexers and switches, meeting challenging deadlines.
  • Manage the validation team, including technical oversight, project management, talent management, performance evaluations, and coaching.
  • Oversee measurements and deliver validation reports and daily activity summaries.
  • Identify issues, document them, and drive failure analysis in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Track milestones and the impact of delays on the overall program, and report expected yield indications to the operations team.
  • Review electro-optical hardware designs, including optics, electronics, firmware, software, and thermal design; identify key parameters to measure and influence designs to ensure testability.
  • Establish effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and provide key learnings for the development of next-generation products.
  • Lead technical discussions to review data and results, summarize outcomes, and determine next steps.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support the development of experienced engineers and technical leads.
