The Sectors and International Advisory Team, which is part of the Mid-Market Group, is looking for an experienced leader to join our team to deliver on our mandate of creating business opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. In the role of the Director, Digital Technology and Advanced Manufacturing, you will leverage your extensive professional network, business development skills, industry expertise, leadership, people and industry skills (Canadian capabilities and global supply chains) to lead the development of prioritized industry sector strategies and generate new export business opportunities for Canadian companies through your team, both directly and indirectly. The position will focus on taking a leadership role in coordinating and executing EDC’s corporate approach to prioritized sectors, by working collaboratively with a cross-functional network of subject matter experts such as EDC program leads and practitioners. This role will also include leading the Canadian exporter engagement in the Business Connection Program and other strategic initiatives. A key part of the success of this role is to support and enable other EDC teams to deliver results including capital deployment, market penetration and network connections. Ultimately, the role prioritizes and leverages a team to build new approaches to drive impact for Canadian exporters in the key sectors. The Director will leverage a network of Global Trade Directors and Associates to deliver the multi-program approach, internally and externally and will be heavily focused on using collaboration and influence to harness the power of other subject matter experts across the organization. The Director will have several direct reports including an Ecosystem Lead, Global Trade Directors and Associates. Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree (or equivalent professional designation) in relevant discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of combined business development and technical advisory experience focused on digital tech and/or advanced technologies, advanced manufacturing
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in sales and/or account management
  • Well-developed and deep global professional network and strong technical and business knowledge acquired through directly relevant business activity
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams, leveraging influencing skills
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French) – minimum speaking proficiency (Level B2).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the overall EDC strategy for digital and advanced manufacturing industry engagement leading to results such as customers served and business facilitated.
  • Provide formal and informal leadership to both direct reports and a cross-functional group of designated subject matter experts including program practitioners
  • Foster insights gathering and exchange to amplify the ability of sector focused EDC practitioners to drive impact for Canadian exporters through virtual ‘communities of practice’
  • Manage the delivery of a partnership approach to drive priorities
  • Build and deliver tools and approaches to support the shared objectives of Mid-Market teams for capital deployment, connections and market penetration including a robust referral approach.
  • Lead the on-going deployment of the Canadian exporter side of the Business Connection Program
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement to ensure optimal capacity utilization and challenge the status quo to identify and leverage synergies with the other teams in Sectors and International Advisory and beyond.
