About The Position

The Director, Digital Media leads and governs Pfizer’s executive digital and social media presence, with primary responsibility for shaping, protecting, and activating the CEO’s digital voice and that of other senior-most executives, across all platforms and mediums. This role owns the strategy, content, agency management, risk oversight, and performance of executive digital communications to advance enterprise priorities, strengthen Pfizer’s reputation, and support leadership credibility, particularly during moments of heightened visibility. As a leader within Corporate Communications, this role operates as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and ensures executive digital activity is fully integrated into Pfizer’s enterprise narrative. It requires strong executional rigor, editorial judgment, stakeholder management, and the ability to manage complex, high-visibility workflows in a dynamic environment. The Director reports to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and is based in New York City.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, English, social sciences, business/economics, healthcare/pre-med, or related fields
  • 8+ years of experience in executive digital media, corporate communications, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience managing CEO or C-suite digital presences in complex, regulated, and reputation-sensitive environments.
  • Proven crisis and issues communications experience, with direct responsibility for executive-level engagement.
  • Agency-management experience, including strategic oversight, budget management, and performance accountability.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, editorial judgment, writing ability, and storytelling skills with a proven ability to convey complex ideas across formats and channels.
  • Deep familiarity with social media management, listening, AI, and analytics platforms (e.g., Sprinklr, Sprout Social) as well as content development tools.
  • Proven ability to translate narratives into executable and scalable communications programs, with a strong understanding of how communications advance business strategy.
  • Ability to operate with discretion, confidence, and influence at the executive level.
  • Strong attention to detail required as is the ability to present oneself well to executives.
  • Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and sound judgment in dynamic and ambiguous environments, with the interpersonal presence and credibility to build trust quickly and influence effectively.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Digital Strategy & Activation Own the end-to-end strategy and governance for Pfizer’s CEO digital and social media presence, ensuring alignment with enterprise narrative, business priorities, and reputational guardrails.
  • Advise the CEO, senior leaders and other communicators on digital positioning, voice, cadence, and platform strategy, with a focus on credibility, authenticity, and performance.
  • Uses expertise in AI and digital trends, community management, content creation, and analytics in strategy, planning, and implementation.
  • Executive Content Creation Lead the development and deployment of high-impact executive digital content across platforms (and LLMs), including written, visual, and video formats.
  • Develop cutting-edge and engaging content that increases performance, connect with audiences, and leverages current trends.
  • Oversee editorial planning, content calendars, and approval workflows, ensuring speed, accuracy, and alignment with Legal, Issues, and Corporate Communications requirements.
  • Balance proactive thought leadership with disciplined restraint during sensitive or high-risk periods.
  • External Partner Management Manage external agency resource supporting executive digital strategy, content creation, monitoring, and analytics.
  • Set clear strategic direction, performance expectations, and governance standards for agency partners doing executive digital work.
  • Oversee agency budgets, scopes of work, performance reviews, and issue escalation.
  • Ensure agency outputs meet Pfizer’s standards for quality, confidentiality, compliance, and executive-level judgment.
  • Performance, Insights & Optimization Define KPIs and success metrics for executive digital communications and regularly report insights to senior communications leadership.
  • Use analytics, data, and trend analysis to inform strategic adjustments in today’s AI-driven and dynamic digital environment.
  • Stay ahead of platform changes, algorithm shifts, and emerging digital dynamics relevant to CEO-level communications.
  • Monitor executive digital channels as an early-warning system for emerging narratives, misinformation, stakeholder escalation, or sentiment shifts.
  • Enterprise Integration & Leadership Serve as a partner across groups like Corporate Communications, Policy, Investor Relations, and regional teams to align executive digital activity with enterprise campaigns and critical moments.
  • Share frameworks, insights, and best practices to elevate digital communications capability across the organization.
  • Lead or mentor internal team members and coordinate agency resources supporting executive digital efforts.
