About The Position

Responsible for the formation and implementation of the Development department’s national communication strategies that reflect National Jewish Health’s strategic plans, institutional priorities, audience affinities and for brand identities through the constituency base throughout the United States. Responsible for enhancing the Development department’s visibility and reputation throughout the country by utilizing all media channels.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in journalism or other related field required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of recent and related experience as professional writer required, including three (3) years management experience.
  • Portfolio must include published materials reflecting experience in one (1) or more of the following areas: public relations, medical reporting, fund-raising, grant writing, marketing or persuasive writing.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources.
  • Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards.
  • Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Create strategic communication objectives focused on goals of major gifts, campaign, events, annual fund and planned giving areas and work with teams to develop plans to implement programs that support these goals.
  • Functions hand-on for implementation of programs and provides evaluation, including changing course as needed.
  • Development of all collateral support for the strategic initiatives of the Development program.
  • Serves as the Development Department’s national brand leader, ensuring that the Development department’s communications are in line with institutional brand strategy and standards across the country.
  • Oversees the development and production of donor/disease specific proposals and reports as required, as well as responsible for the maintenance of materials essential to creating said documents.
  • Also oversees the development and production of writing and reviewing grant proposals.
  • Oversees the production of collateral including but not limited to letters, speeches, proposals and reports for the President and CEO, Board of Directors, faculty and staff representatives.
  • Creates strategy for and oversees the production of Development Social Media and Website content.
  • Collaborates with Public Affairs and Marketing Departments to share information, prevent duplication of effort and to help brand National Jewish Health with strong institutionally approved messages.
