About The Position

The Director for the Center of Data Science advances cutting-edge research and develops transformative solutions at the intersection of biology, medicine, and data science. Contributes to campus-wide groundbreaking initiatives that will drive scientific innovation, enhance patient care, and align our mission to improve lives. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field required.
  • Minimum five years of applied experience in biostatistics, bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications required.
  • Strong understanding of life sciences, including genomics, systems biology, and molecular biology.
  • Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics, predictive modeling, multivariate analysis, Bayesian statistics experimental design and Model validation and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, GATK, Ensembl), clinical and big data integration, multi-omics analyses, and translational research.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, SAS) and general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Julia, or C++).
  • Expertise in machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn) and advanced AI algorithms.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.
  • Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction.
  • Think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.
  • Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
