About The Position

Lead a team accountable for strong data governance and data management practices across Wealth Canada, US Wealth Management and Direct Investing businesses. Drive alignment with enterprise data standards while evangelizing data literacy and AI capabilities. Shape the organization's data culture, manage critical data and privacy risks and influence senior leadership across a global matrixed environment. This is a pivotal role establishing robust data management practices, ensuring regulatory compliance and enabling data-driven decision making across multiple business units. This role may require occasional travel to the US and is based in person in our downtown Toronto office.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial acumen and (ideally) knowledge of Wealth Management businesses and data flows or experience managing a data governance function in a large organization
  • Strong regulatory and compliance knowledge regarding management of data risk, both in Canada and the US, extensive knowledge and experience in data governance frameworks and practices
  • Strong team management and leadership skills with ability to influence at senior levels, people manager experience
  • Delivery-focused, solution-oriented mindset with operational appreciation

Nice To Haves

  • EDM Council DCAM (or equivalent) Data Management Capability Assessment model certification
  • Experience with US regulatory data frameworks and guidelines (FFIEC handbooks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of leading technology solutions and vendors for data management
  • Understanding of RBC's Enterprise Information Management Risk (EIMR) policies and procedures or equivalent frameworks

Responsibilities

  • As a subset of our Global Wealth Data Management Office “DMO”, lead activities across 3 Wealth business lines, partnering with business and technology leadership to ensure compliance with data governance policies and industry best practices
  • Develop and deliver self-service data health reporting and KPIs aligned with regulatory and internal policy requirements
  • Oversee deployment and ongoing hygiene of data management practices (metadata management, data quality, data lineage) and establish SLAs for key data classes
  • Champion data and AI literacy campaigns, supporting staff training on tools, processes and data model understanding – provide thought leadership on various topics to executives
  • Manage selected data risk and privacy risk assessments for the selected businesses, supporting initiatives through governance risk gates
  • Direct HR management of all local DMO resources, including staff development, stakeholder management, and team leadership
  • Own data retention and destruction programs in partnership with technology and compliance teams
  • Evangelize data governance best practices to senior business and technology leadership, influencing stakeholder buy-in
