About The Position
The BlackRock Investment Stewardship (BIS) team operates globally across three regions: Americas (New York and San Francisco), Europe, Middle East and Africa (London), and Asia-Pacific (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney). BIS engages with and votes at portfolio companies on behalf of index clients worldwide. This role is an opportunity to join a high-performing, global team of specialists. The BIS team's activities are guided by its fiduciary role for clients. The Director will lead the Data & Analytics team within BIS, supporting the delivery of processes and tools for the global BIS team. This position is based in New York and reports to the Head of Platform, BIS.
Requirements
- 8-12 years of experience in data engineering.
- Recent experience in evaluating and deploying modern AI techniques.
- Undergraduate degree is required.
- Expert-level proficiency in relational modeling and complex query optimization.
- Experienced in AI including orchestration and building workflows, UI/UX, and building RAG-based systems.
- Design robust schemas and ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest corporate filings, global news, and financial data, maximizing our ability to deliver rapid insights.
- Ability to integrate cutting-edge AI into BIS workflow.
- Comfortable with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) search, Agentic Workflows, and AI embeddings to help query massive datasets intuitively.
- Demonstrated experience using Python or C# to automate workflows and solve engineering hurdles.
- Significant experience with Snowflake (specifically Lake House implementations).
- Effective communication skills; confidence and ability to interact at the most senior levels and collaborate with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Collaborative working style, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience engaging and working effectively with partner technology teams in a multi-national organization.

Responsibilities
- Lead the BIS Data & Analytics team, managing three engineers based in New York.
- Deliver global, data-centric stewardship capabilities including research and reporting, complementing qualitative company-specific research by BIS engagement and voting analysts.
- Drive the buildout and maintenance of tools and processes in support of BIS' engagement, voting, and client reporting operations, in close partnership with BIS' engagement and voting analysts.
- Enable the stewardship platform, spanning research, voting, and client reporting.
- Leverage expertise in automation to improve analyst efficiency and controls.
- Support voting and engagement client reporting by designing and maintaining a code stack utilizing BlackRock’s applications and tools, including managing interfaces with Aladdin and other external applications and vendors.
- Partner with other analytical and technology functions across BlackRock, including the Aladdin Product Group, and Risk and Quantitative Analysis to build, maintain, and improve technological solutions.
- Ensure the integrity of the BIS data environment and oversee the quality control of BIS proprietary datasets.
- Act as the golden source of truth for data-rich publications.
- Direct a team of data analysts in the appropriate design and use of data tools and reports.
