About The Position

The Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Analysis Center is currently accepting applications for a Social Research Manager II. This position is located in Raleigh, NC. This position manages and supervises all activities necessary to operate social research projects, programs and work settings within the Criminal Justice Analysis Center (CJAC) of the Governor's Crime Commission (GCC). This position is responsible for the planning, organization, implementation, and assessment of the evaluation and research programs and projects related to crime and the criminal justice system. This position serves as a policy advisor (including policy/program development), program consultant and resources to the Executive Director of the Governor's Crime Commission and the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and the Governor's Office. This position will direct the operations of data evaluations components of the Governor's Crime Commission Section. This position monitors and appropriately advises the three standing committees of the GCC which include Juvenile Justice, Criminal Justice Improvement and Crime Victims Services. The Governor's Crime Commission serves as the chief advisory body to the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and the Governor on matters pertaining to crime and criminal justice.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a discipline related to the work assigned to the position from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of research project management supervisory experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the work assigned to the position from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of research/analysis experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the NC criminal justice system
  • Experience managing criminal justice data analysis projects.
  • Experience using applications (e.g., SAS, R, SQL, and/or SPSS) for combining datasets and analyzing quantitative data.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of the Analysis Center to include, but not limited to, the creation and development of research projects and analytical initiatives.
  • Prepare research designs and data collection plans for the analysis and reporting of qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Manage the operations of the CJAC including the selection, recruitment and supervision of staff.
  • Provide research-based advice and input on policy and program development issues to the three standing committees.
  • Provide research and analytical advice to state and local officials, and private citizens, on statewide or local criminal justice policy and program development issues, for the development and implementation of juvenile justice, criminal justice and crime victims' services programs and policies.
  • Develop partnerships to support successful implementation of Governor's Crime Commission initiatives.
  • Work routinely with department directors at state universities and local agencies especially in the areas of policy, programming and project development, and data as it relates to the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems, and crime victims' services.
