JOB SUMMARY: The Director, Creative Direction leads the execution and delivery of creative projects, supporting the Senior Director, Creative Direction in achieving organizational goals and brand vision. This role drives the artistic narrative and immersive experiences for assigned projects, manages project teams, and fosters a diverse and inclusive culture. The Director mentors Creative Directors and Narrative Designers (Show Writers), promotes proactive problem-solving, and optimizes team performance. They collaborate across design, engineering, architecture, art direction, and project management to deliver cohesive creative outcomes, ensuring storytelling aligns with the brand’s vision. The Director supports senior leadership and IP partners, facilitating cross-departmental communication to drive project success. In partnership with IP management, the role ensures that all creative content respects cultural sensitivities, aligns with IP guidelines, and meets approval requirements. Together, they drive the creative process, balancing innovation with brand integrity, and ensuring that the final experience is both creatively ambitious and globally resonant.

Requirements

  • 15+ years designing experience-based entertainment for world-class theme parks or related industries
  • 9+ years art direction or production design and field experience based on Universal Creative standards
  • equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of assigned creative projects, ensuring alignment with the Senior Director’s vision and organizational goals.
  • Manage project teams, providing clear direction and resources to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate across design, engineering, architecture, art direction, and project management to integrate efforts and achieve cohesive creative results.
  • Support the Senior Director in developing creative strategies, contributing to project planning and execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement of creative techniques, mentoring team members to refine their skills and elevate their craft.
  • Lead the development of compelling narratives that resonate with audiences, ensuring visual and verbal storytelling aligns with the brand’s vision.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of persuasive pitches, guiding teams to produce clear presentation materials that communicate creative concepts.
  • Guide the creative process from ideation to implementation, ensuring concepts are feasible and reflect the intended vision.
  • Champion the creative intent throughout all project stages, ensuring final deliverables meet high standards of quality.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive culture, encouraging collaboration and empowering team members to contribute ideas.
  • Mentor Creative Directors and Narrative Designers (Show Writers), providing guidance and feedback to support professional growth.
  • Promote proactive problem-solving and decision-making, enabling teams to meet project deadlines efficiently.
  • Optimize team performance and resource allocation, streamlining workflows to enhance productivity.
  • Support senior leadership and IP partners in executing creative strategies, facilitating effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Act as a bridge between project teams and other departments (e.g., marketing, operations), fostering collaboration and integrating diverse perspectives.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by collaborating with creative peers under the Senior Director’s guidance.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative environment that inspires teams to solve problems creatively and deliver results.
  • Lead with optimism and a solution-oriented approach, motivating teams to achieve excellence.
