About The Position

The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is transforming Alberta’s health system to the Alberta Recovery Model, which adopts a recovery-oriented approach for addiction and mental health. A recovery-oriented system of care is a coordinated network of personalized, community-based services for people at risk of or experiencing addiction and mental health challenges. It provides access to a full continuum of services and supports, from prevention and intervention to treatment and recovery. The vision is for every Albertan to have the opportunity to pursue recovery and live a healthy and productive life. The Ministry also liaises with the Office of the Alberta Health Advocates and Recovery Alberta.

Requirements

  • A university degree in public administration, business, social sciences, law, or a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience related to the role; or equivalent.
  • Experience providing strategic leadership and oversight of corporate or enabling services within a complex organization, preferably in the public sector.
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating organizational or corporate risks, including ensuring compliance with legislative, policy, and governance requirements.
  • Experience overseeing or advising on access to information, privacy, or information management functions within a legislative framework.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership through corporate planning, performance reporting, governance processes, and high‑quality briefing materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience overseeing or supporting emergency management, consequence management, or business continuity functions.
  • Experience related to workplace health and safety, facilities planning, or accommodation services.
  • Strong understanding of privacy legislation in Alberta, including PIPA, POPA and HIA.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership for corporate support services to ensure alignment with ministry priorities, government direction, and legislative requirements.
  • Leading and overseeing corporate service functions including emergency management, business continuity, accommodations, facilities coordination, purchasing and contract support, and occupational health and safety.
  • Providing strategic oversight of information management, privacy, and access to information functions, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Serving as a senior advisor to executive leadership on corporate risks, information and privacy issues, and governance considerations.
  • Coordinating and reporting on cross‑government initiatives such as Red Tape Reduction, French Policy, Anti‑Racism initiatives, and other enterprise‑wide commitments.
  • Supporting governance, corporate planning, performance measurement, and executive decision‑making through high‑quality briefings, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing managers and staff to foster a respectful, inclusive, and high‑performing work environment.
  • Representing the ministry in cross‑government, interdepartmental, and external forums related to corporate services and governance.
