About The Position

The Director, Controllership provides strategic leadership in financial reporting, internal controls, and risk mitigation to support business objectives and compliance with accounting standards. This role oversees accounting operations, manages audits, and ensures adherence to regulatory requirements while fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence. The Director collaborates cross-functionally to influence business initiatives, optimize financial processes, and develop talent within the team. This position demands a strong commitment to integrity, accuracy, and effective resource management to drive sustainable financial performance and support organizational goals. The team provides comprehensive accounting and business support to the WMT US Merchandising organization, overseeing overall gross profit management. They analyze business objectives, develop and implement financial strategies, and ensure compliance with accounting standards. The team manages risk mitigation, internal controls, and financial planning while fostering collaboration across departments. They drive continuous improvement by leveraging data insights and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Committed to integrity and operational excellence, the team supports Walmart’s goals through effective resource management and delivering accurate financial reporting aligned with business priorities.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation with extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, including oversight of audits and balance sheet accounts.
  • Strong expertise in designing and improving internal controls and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in managing budgets, forecasting, and aligning financial strategies with business objectives.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, compliance, and fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and adapt to emerging financial trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field and 5 years’ experience in finance, accounting, or related area OR 7 years’ experience in finance, accounting, or related area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction by analyzing business objectives and developing comprehensive financial plans aligned with company goals.
  • Oversee financial reporting, balance sheet accounts, and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Manage risk mitigation by designing and enhancing financial controls and coordinating with auditors and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead budgeting processes, reviewing and recommending budgets for finance and support departments.
  • Advise on strategic initiatives by representing controllership in cross-functional projects and ensuring sound internal controls.
  • Foster talent development through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning to build a skilled workforce.
