About The Position

This is a high-impact Controller role with end-to-end oversight of the accounting and ledgers for Beverage Packaging North and Central America—Ball’s largest division. As the Director, Controller - North and Central America, you will ensure accurate, timely closes and US GAAP reporting, provide oversight across the control environment, and serve as a trusted business advisor embedded with finance, operations, and functional leaders across the division. The role combines strong technical accounting and controllership with broad business partnership, giving the leader the opportunity to influence decisions, strengthen controls, improve processes, and help shape accounting practices across BPNCA while partnering closely with the global Assistant Controller organization. Primary purpose of the position: Establishes and direct the accounting policies and procedures for the Beverage Packaging North and Central America.

Responsibilities

  • Overall accountability and responsibility for the accounting function of the division (BPNCA), ensuring alignment and adherence with company accounting policies to ensure the reported results of the business are true and accurate.
  • Review and sign off of all division reporting to support the US GAAP filing requirements
  • Act as the key business contact between Global Business Services GBS and the division for outsourced transactional processes and play a strategic role in continuous improvement, standardization and optimization of work outsourced
  • Represent the division on the Global Accounting Center of Expertise (COE) leadership team to strive toward global standardization of systems, processes and procedures
  • Lead the SOX program for the division, acting as the key conduit between the business and both External & Internal Audit. Take a key role in any remediation/recommendations required and act as a champion for continuous improvement within the internal control environment for the division
  • Lead the COE organisation through the execution and delivery of all required external regulatory requirements, acting as the key support point of contact for any issues or remediation requirements
  • Act as the key conduit between the business and Internal Audit, taking an active role in the Internal Audit program and reviewing outputs/recommendations and carrying out broader regional impact assessments
  • Be a steward for adherence to corporate policies through building key relationships in the business, identifying areas of risk and implementing plans to mitigate them
  • Act as approver for complex and high value transactions/agreements (e.g. AFE/AFL/Contracts), ensuring technical accounting considerations are applied upon review alongside policy adherence
  • Lead and support the Corporate & Global Beverage COE organisation on all technical accounting matters, acting as the first point of contact and conduit between the business and technical accounting where required on more complex matters
  • Be a strategic partner to the divisional BPNCA finance leadership team (VP Finance or other role), acting as the “go to” person for all business proposals for impact assessment. Examples may include Customer/Supplier proposals
  • Build strong relationships with key functional leads (Legal/Sourcing/Commercial) giving rise to strategic level business partnering, allowing for impact considerations to be part of forward looking key decision making
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and decision making of the Global COE with VP Controller
  • Support other strategic finance and other initiatives as required
  • Support non-finance projects as required (Coupa/Vendavo/S4) and provide expert advice/support for Accounting/Controlling considerations
  • Build out succession plans for key roles in the COE organisation including this role
  • Lead through the ICA framework and support the diversity and inclusion initiatives
