Director, Content Accessibility

College Board•Remote - New Jersey, NJ
•$80,000 - $135,000•Remote

About The Position

The Content Accessibility team at College Board has the privilege and responsibility of ensuring that College Board assessments are accessible for individuals with disabilities. Our work is both specialized and broad: we work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to write and review image descriptions, consult with technology teams to improve accessibility supports in authoring tools, and collaborate with accessibility and accommodations specialists across the organization to ensure test content meets policy and the needs of test-takers. We not only advocate for universal design, we live it. As a Director, Content Accessibility, you coach a team of writers and reviewers who bridge the gap between students who use assistive technology to take College Board assessments and the makers of College Board assessments. By bridging that gap, your team ensures every test question meets accessibility guidelines. Your attitude is can-do: you write and review image descriptions and evaluate caption tracks, you construct reader scripts and braille maps, you apply headings when the content requires them. Moreover, you take on the team’s most complex and high-stakes work yourself. You do the work because leading by example helps the team excel. Ultimately, in Content Accessibility, everything you do is focused on one goal: ensuring College Board assessments are accessible so that all students, no matter their ability, can show what they know and can do. You can say with confidence that the work of your team is a primary reason College Board is an industry leader in accessible testing.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in accessibility or accommodations-focused roles, technical writing, or assessment content writing, with at least 4 years specifically in accessibility or accommodations-related work (e.g., accessibility specialist, inclusive designer, Section 508 compliance analyst)

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting remotely and in-person to leaders and cross-functional audiences.
  • Demonstrated success handling complex, ambiguous, or high-stakes work with sound judgment and autonomy.
  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence others to action.
  • Experience creating or maintaining accessibility standards or guidelines.

  • A passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and mission-driven work
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a willingness to experiment with and adopt new AI-driven solutions and comfort with learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactively.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, written and verbal
  • A learner's mindset and a commitment to growth: welcoming diverse perspectives, giving and receiving timely, respectful feedback, and continuously improving through iterative learning and user input.
  • A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach: working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to a culture of shared success
  • Authorization to work in the United States

  • Cultivate an inclusive and high achieving culture that enables all team members to live out College Board’s Operating Principles.

  • Represent Content Accessibility, including the team’s aims, standards, constraints, and risk considerations, in planning conversations with program, product, and technology teams. Ensure accessibility is built into all processes, tools, and assessments.
  • Educate and mentor others about universal design, accessibility, and accommodations, such as through presentations and trainings.
