About The Position

As the Director, Construction, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s future by delivering projects that enable growth, enhance customer experience, and maximize investment value. You’ll lead the execution of new stores, remodels, and strategic initiatives with a focus on speed, quality, and long-term business impact. This role is open to remote candidates; however, there is a preference for individuals based in or near the CA Bay Area.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in either Architecture or Construction Management or a related field (experience would be considered in lieu of the college degree).
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing a construction team in multi-unit retail environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize these tasks, and follow through to ensure timely results.
Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to travel up to 50%.
Analytical skills both mathematical and problem solving.
Experience with project bidding, negotiations, budgeting, planning, and project management is required.

Responsibilities

Creating and managing budgets aligned with project timelines.
Developing work specifications that support operational needs and budget requirements.
Preparing bid summaries for new stores and remodels for review by leadership.
Reviewing, approving, and logging all invoicing with regards to construction related items, working closely with accounts payable to assure projects are within budgets, forecast and advise if budgets are in jeopardy of overruns.
Monitoring project progress, construction and development schedules within the budgeted guidelines to ensure projects are completed on time and are aligned with the company goals and objectives.
Inspecting on-site work periodically to ensure accuracy of reports, resolve disputes or problems and ensure consistency in details and construction standards between all projects.
Developing and documenting all required agreements and notices.
Working with leadership on contract variations to ensure proper documentation is executed, obtaining approvals as necessary.
Preparing and issuing standard contracts for General Contractors, Architects and other consultants assigned.
Reviewing lease agreements as required to assist the Real Estate, Lease Administration, and Facilities departments in construction-related items and issues.
Participating in Real Estate Pipeline meetings and presenting timing and budgetary forecasting for new and existing store projects to Senior Leadership.
Developing and maintaining relationships with external vendors to ensure timely provision of materials and products as well as to negotiate pricing for provision of services.
Reviewing contractors’ insurance certificates for conformance with company and contract requirements.
Performing plan checks on all Construction Documents, ensuring consistent plans and coordination between site specific fixture floor, prototype plans and job specific documents and Real Estate agreements.
Ensuring that all contractual materials, contracts, change orders are executed meeting company guidelines, properly signed and coded with project numbers.
Supervising Construction Project Manager and Architectural Design teams, providing clear expectations and timely/relevant performance feedback.
