About The Position

Boingo is seeking a technology leader to manage Information Security within the Engineering department. This role is crucial for a company that operates secure, high-performance networks in various public and private venues and relies on a modern, compliant, and automated corporate technology infrastructure. In addition to internal security, Boingo is developing security products and services for its operating venues, including military installations, airports, transit systems, and stadiums. This leader will ensure the internal security organization is robust enough to support both enterprise compliance and the growing customer-facing security business. The position will oversee teams responsible for employee productivity and company security, including Security Compliance/GRC and Cybersecurity. This role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Network Operations, Product, Legal, HR, Finance, and Operations. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with mixed enterprise environments (Microsoft 365/Entra ID, Google Workspace, Mac/Windows endpoints) and building programs aligned with NIST, GRC, and SOC 2. They should understand how to extend security beyond the corporate perimeter to support secure network deployments and security product offerings in complex venue environments, and excel at building high-performing, automation-focused teams.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in information technology, information security, or infrastructure leadership, with 3+ years in people management
Proven success leading security/GRC functions, or equivalently large infrastructure and compliance organizations
Deep working knowledge of NIST cybersecurity frameworks, GRC program operation, and SOC 2 audit readiness
Hands-on executive experience operating a multi-platform enterprise, including: Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Conditional Access; Google Workspace and Google Admin; Mixed Mac and Windows endpoint environments (Jamf, Intune, or equivalent MDM); Corporate networking, VPN/Zero Trust access, and SaaS identity integration
Experience applying security controls and governance in complex network or multi-site operational environments; experience in telecommunications, venue, or service-provider environments strongly preferred
Experience partnering with product, engineering, and network teams to deliver secure services or security-enabled offerings to customers
Experience with SIEM, EDR, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, and GRC platforms (e.g., ZenGRC or equivalent)
Demonstrated ability to partner with Engineering on secure architecture, cloud/platform security, and remediation of audit or scan findings
Strong executive communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership, auditors, customers, and business stakeholders
Track record of building automation-first organizations that reduce manual touchpoints and improve compliance posture
Proven ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organizational structure
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience

CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent certifications
Experience in telecommunications, SaaS, or regulated industries
Familiarity with ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CCPA/GDPR, or customer-driven security frameworks
Experience supporting security in DAS, Wi-Fi, private network, or carrier/venue network environments
Background supporting federal, DoD, transit, aviation, or other highly regulated venue customers
Experience leading Google Workspace migration or role-based collaboration platform segmentation

Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership over Information Security, including GRC and Cybersecurity functions
Own and mature Boingo's GRC program, including risk register management, control mapping, evidence collection, and audit readiness
Maintain alignment with NIST, SOC 2, and applicable regulatory and contractual obligations
Partner with IT, Legal, HR, Finance, and Engineering on policy development, vendor security, incident response, and risk acceptance
Ensure security architecture, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, logging/monitoring, and endpoint security programs operate effectively across the enterprise
Partner with Product, Engineering, and Network Operations to support the development and delivery of Boingo's venue security offering
Ensure security requirements are embedded into DAS, private network, and Wi-Fi network designs, deployments, and ongoing operations for customer venues
Align internal security standards, controls, and operational practices with the security capabilities Boingo delivers to airports, transit systems, military bases, stadiums, and other large-scale environments
Support go-to-market, customer, and operational readiness for venue security products and services
Serve as a senior security voice in cross-functional discussions involving network architecture, product roadmap, deployment, and customer support
Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing leadership team
Define annual Security strategy, roadmap, and budget in alignment with Engineering and company objectives
Unify IT operations and security into a single control plane for identity, devices, and access
Serve as escalation point for major incidents, audit findings, control gaps, and operational outages
Represent Security in executive forums, audit activities, customer security reviews, and cross-functional governance
Perform other duties/projects as requested by senior management
