About The Position

The CI (Competitive Intelligence) Director, Oncology, supports strategic commercial efforts by providing objective, in-depth, and actionable intelligence on current and future market and competitive forces across the oncology portfolio. The Director serves as a strategic advisor to US Franchise Leadership, with deep expertise in competitive drivers, market dynamics, and oncology BU CI best practices. In addition to leading CI strategy within a specific therapeutic area, the Director is accountable for pan-oncology competitive intelligence deliverables, people leadership, and the development of a high-performing oncology CI team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (life science or related degree is a plus).
  • MBA or related graduate degree is preferred. (Masters or PhD in life science discipline is a plus).
  • Minimum of 12+ years in pharma/biotech or management consulting, with 7+ years of competitive intelligence experience
  • Analytical reasoning abilities, intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen, and creativity in problem solving
  • Ability to interact effectively with/present to (verbally and in writing) all levels of the organization, from Product Managers to Senior Executives.
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed environment and standing out as a successful collaborator
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including managing and developing direct reports
  • Proven experience supporting oncology franchises and/or pan-portfolio strategies
  • Strong track record of influencing senior leaders in complex, matrixed environments
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to lead through influence as well as authority
  • Ability to be agile & nimble to changing business conditions, strong collaboration, and teamwork across functional groups to contribute to a productive work culture.
  • Lead strategically and create trust and respect within the department
  • Ability to interact effectively with/present to all levels of the organization, expertise in PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver pan-oncology competitive intelligence strategies, ensuring consistency, prioritization, and strategic alignment across multiple brands and indications
  • Anticipate and elevate cross-franchise implications of competitor actions, scientific advancements, and pipeline and commercial trends
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior commercial, franchise, and functional leaders on broader oncology competitive risk and opportunity
  • Coordinate and execute company-wide CI activities at scientific and medical congresses, consolidating insights and implications for senior stakeholders across all tumor types
  • Own the development of tools that can be leveraged to speed time to insight for oncology CI lead and stakeholders
  • Establish CI governance, prioritization frameworks, and operating models that balance brand-specific and franchise and BU needs
  • Represent Oncology CI in enterprise projects and forums, initiative planning, and cross-portfolio discussions
  • Lead CI strategy within assigned oncology therapeutic areas, translating competitor activity and market events into clear near- and long-term business implications
  • Provide an objective commercial viewpoint on disruptive forces and emerging competitive dynamics, grounded in deep analysis of healthcare, commercial, clinical, and scientific data
  • Drive and execute CI plans, including primary and secondary intelligence collection, vendor management, synthesis, and dissemination
  • Act as a CI subject matter expert, modeling best practices in ethical intelligence gathering and application
  • Partner cross-functionally (e.g., APEX, Medical, Access, Regulatory) to ensure integrated and enterprise-relevant CI viewpoints; work to expand partnerships with cross functional partners to increase depth of competitive insights
  • Ensure all CI activities are conducted in accordance with financial and ethical compliance guidelines
  • Partner with other Competitive Intelligence teams to optimize investment, alignment, and avoid duplication of effort
  • Directly lead, coach, and develop a team of CI professionals, fostering strong performance, engagement, and career development
  • Set clear expectations, priorities, and development plans for team members, aligned with business needs and CI maturity goals
  • Build scalable CI capabilities, processes, and standards to support growing oncology and enterprise CI demands
  • Model inclusive leadership behaviors and promote a high-trust, high-accountability culture
