This role is for a Director of Communications and Public Affairs within the Johnson & Johnson Vision team, located in Jacksonville, FL. The Vision team is driven by innovation at the intersection of biology and technology, developing next-generation vision treatments. The Director is responsible for developing and executing integrated public affairs and communications strategies to support Vision business priorities, enhance corporate reputation, and engage employees across the Americas region. This position serves as a key strategic advisor to Vision leadership and collaborates closely with various internal teams including Communications and Public Affairs, Government Affairs & Policy, Strategic Customer Groups, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, or related fields within consumer healthcare, medical technology or pharmaceuticals environments
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing PR and external engagement strategies in complex, regulated industries
  • Consumer communications and PR experience to drive demand for brands
  • Strong executive‑level communication, writing, and messaging skills
  • Strong understanding of content strategy, platform and channel distribution including social, digital, and e-commerce
  • Proficiency in digital communication platforms and analytics tools
  • Ability to develop relationships externally and internally

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Vision Americas leadership teams to understand business strategy, opportunities, and external risks, translating insights into effective communications and public affairs strategies
  • Lead a regional communications team of four with responsibility for North America and Latin America (Americas)
  • Drive the execution of commercial communications campaigns to help advance Vision’s leadership in contact lenses and surgical vision
  • Drive demand for megabrands ACUVUE and TECNIS through integrated communications activities
  • Devise and implement employee engagement strategies
  • Lead communications for new product introductions and established portfolio
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including influencers, media, key opinion leaders and industry associations
  • Monitor and assess the competitive, media and social / digital environment to ensure breakthrough communications strategy
  • Develop strong cross‑functional partnerships across Vision Care and Surgical Vision, including Commercial, Sales, Professional Affairs and Regulatory
  • Ensure close coordination with Vision global communications and enterprise teams to deliver aligned and consistent engagement
  • Provide strategic counsel and execution support for external speaking engagements, thought leadership initiatives, and media opportunities for Vision
  • Support federal and state government affairs teams by developing messaging, briefing materials, and engagement strategies for interactions with policymakers and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a member of the Americas Leadership team and trusted advisor to Vision business leaders, providing ongoing counsel on reputation management, emerging issues, and complex external challenges
  • Stay informed on industry, societal, and policy trends, with a strong understanding of pricing, market access, and healthcare ecosystem dynamics affecting the Vision business
  • Support functional communications initiatives and contribute to effective management of issues and crisis situations
