About The Position

The Virginia National Guard Commonwealth ChalleNGe Program provides a highly disciplined atmosphere fostering academics, leadership development, physical training and personal growth to educate, train and prepare at-risk high school youth 16-18 years old for college, potential military service and meaningful civilian employment. The purpose of this position is to manage/lead a diverse staff of instructors, cadre and administrative personnel. This role provides direction, guidance, oversight and focus to young people. The Director will communicate program policies and objectives to achieve and maintain the highest standards of organizational and personal performance. This role ensures the program compliance of the DoD / NGB Youth Challenge Program ensuring proper use of program funding, inspection and audit criteria and graduation goals.

Requirements

  • A comprehensive knowledge of agency operations and mission, educational requirements for obtaining GEDs.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal/state policies regarding “at risk” youth.
  • The ability to interpret and develop program policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must have the skill to communicate, reason with, motivate young people.
  • Ability to quickly grasp current environment of youth development.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and performance management experience required.
  • Operations Management experience required.
  • Experience preparing evidence for auditors, evaluating results, and completing After Action Review to correct any and all issues discovered.
  • Must be able to work different shifts as needed to include weekends.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Ability to interpret and develop program policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse groups and across all levels of state and military organizations.
  • Driver's License with acceptable driving record required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced skills in interpersonal relationships and team building.
  • Must become a certified CPR/First Aid/AED instructor within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid Virginia Driver’s License for the duration of employment.
