About The Position

Meridian is seeking a Director, Commercial Services to build and develop a portfolio of complex and high-value commercial accounts, generally with lending needs exceeding $5,000,000. The role is critical for achieving financial objectives related to profitable growth and retention of the assigned portfolio. Success involves growing the commercial book through sound risk management and cultivating new business relationships. This position also involves mentoring and coaching staff through collaborative teamwork, embodying a member-centric approach, and ensuring high standards of employee engagement, business results, and community engagement with a focus on execution excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7-10+ years progressive experience in sales/service and managing a diverse portfolio in a commercial banking environment.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong and thorough knowledge of the commercial banking marketplace and the assigned market area’s key industries and competitive positioning.
  • Expert knowledge of segment strategies, structure, and its lending and deposit products and services.
  • Excellent analytical, relationship, interpersonal, communication, presentation, and team skills.
  • Strong business acumen coupled with a demonstrated ability to initiate action to achieve results and meet deadlines while respecting fundamental corporate values.
  • Ability to work independently with confidence and strong commitment to Member service.
  • Leadership, organizational, impact, influencing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact at any level within the organization and in a business development capacity within the community.
  • Advanced credit and interviewing techniques, credit investigation, and underwriting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor and manage the profitability of commercial relationships with Members to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships by fully understanding their goals, objectives, and business status.
  • Identify and initiate contact with Members, partners, community leaders, centers of influence (COI), and prospects through a coordinated and targeted marketing plan to close deals and strengthen, protect, and grow the commercial book of business.
  • Maintain an ongoing sales pipeline and effectively follow up on unsuccessful referrals/prospects.
  • Utilize exceptional financial and industry knowledge to proactively assess and anticipate Member needs, suggesting, recommending, and proposing products/solutions to meet those needs and broader business objectives. Ensure Members are aware of product benefits and new offerings.
  • Structure, negotiate, and document complex credit and cash management arrangements with segment Members and prospects, often in partnership with Commercial Credit. Negotiate all credit terms and appropriately assess relationship risk.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge and excellent analytical skills in balance sheets, cash flow mechanics, and business plans presented by Members.
  • Mentor and coach staff formally and informally through collaborative teamwork.
  • Embody a "Member-centric" approach while ensuring a high standard of employee engagement, business results, and community engagement ensuring execution with excellence.
