Position Overview The Director, Coding – Cardiology provides strategic and operational leadership for cardiology coding functions, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely coding across complex cardiovascular services. This role partners closely with clinical, revenue cycle, and operational leaders to drive quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • CCVTC – Certified Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Coder (Required)
  • CIRCC – Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (Required)
  • Extensive experience in cardiology and cardiovascular coding, including interventional and surgical services
  • Previous leadership or management experience within a coding, HIM, or revenue cycle environment
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive operational excellence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large, complex health systems or multi-site operations
  • Background in coding audits, education, or compliance programs
  • Familiarity with EHR and encoder systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for cardiology coding operations, including cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery services
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, payer, and regulatory coding guidelines
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of specialty coders
  • Drive coding quality, accuracy, and productivity through audits, education, and performance monitoring
  • Partner with physicians, clinical leadership, compliance, and revenue integrity teams to resolve complex coding issues
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and optimization
  • Support operational initiatives, system implementations, and workflow enhancements related to cardiology coding
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes impacting cardiology and cardiovascular coding practices
