Director, Codes & Standards

Enphase EnergyPetaluma, CA
$50,000 - $75,600

About The Position

Enphase Energy is seeking a senior codes and standards leader to own and drive the company's position within the regulatory and standards landscape for the IQ® Solid-State Transformer (IQ SST) business. This is an external-facing influence role where the individual will represent Enphase in committees, panels, and working groups that are shaping the rules for solid-state transformers and data center power. The role involves anticipating future regulations, influencing their development, and translating them into actionable direction for product, engineering, and certification teams. The position requires building and leveraging a network of industry contacts, including committee chairs, testing laboratories, utilities, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), data center operators, and peer manufacturers.

Requirements

  • Recognized codes and standards professional in power electronics, medium-voltage equipment, transformers, or data center power infrastructure.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years of direct committee work.
  • Proven influencer with experience holding seats on standards technical panels, code-making panels, or working groups, with a track record of driving proposals, ballots, or code changes to adoption.
  • Active network across UL, IEEE, NFPA, ICC, testing labs (NRTLs), utilities, and AHJs, ideally extending into the data center industry.
  • Deep working knowledge of medium-voltage power conversion and transformer standards (UL 1741, UL 2877, UL 347/347A, UL 1562, IEEE C57 series), grid interconnection (IEEE 1547-2018/1547.1), and the NEC for equipment over 1000 V and data center installations.
  • Experience driving requirements for technology not cleanly covered by existing standards.
  • Effective advocate and communicator, capable of writing persuasive proposals, presenting credibly, and distilling complex regulatory developments.
  • Strategic and self-directed, able to set agendas, prioritize tasks, and deliver results with minimal oversight.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 40% (primarily U.S.) for committee meetings, hearings, and industry events.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required.

Nice To Haves

  • MS or PE
  • International standards experience (IEC 62477-2, IEC 62109, IEC 60076 series, CE marking pathways, participation in IEC technical committees or national-committee mirror groups).
  • Direct experience with solid-state transformer, MV drive, or MV UPS certification programs.
  • Experience with DC distribution standards work (e.g., OCP, ±400 V/800 V DC architectures) or hyperscale data center power specifications.
  • Held leadership positions (chair, vice-chair, task group lead) in standards bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive Enphase's codes and standards strategy for the IQ SST platform, covering medium-voltage power conversion, high-frequency isolation transformers, DC distribution, and grid interconnection, aligned with product roadmaps and timelines.
  • Represent Enphase on key industry committees, including UL Standards Technical Panels (UL 1741, UL 2877, UL 347/347A, UL 1562), IEEE working groups (IEEE 1547 series, IEEE PES Transformers Committee), NFPA/NEC code-making panels (Articles 450, 490, 705, data center articles), and ICC code development.
  • Identify standards gaps for emerging technologies like high-voltage DC distribution in data centers and certification paths for SST architectures, initiating new standards projects and driving industry consensus.
  • Engage with data center industry bodies such as the Open Compute Project (OCP) and NFPA 75/76 to ensure customer-specified DC power architectures align with industry standards.
  • Author and champion proposals, including code change proposals, standards revisions, comments, and ballot positions, building coalitions for adoption and leading discussions.
  • Engage with utilities and interconnection proceedings regarding medium-voltage service and grid-interface requirements for SST-powered facilities.
  • Partner with testing laboratories (NRTLs) and the certification engineering team to establish practical evaluation schemes for SST products, aiming to reduce cost and time-to-market.
  • Monitor, interpret, and forecast code cycles, standard revisions, and rulemakings, briefing executives and product teams on upcoming changes and required actions.
  • Support AHJs and field acceptance by resolving jurisdictional interpretation issues and supporting training and outreach for smooth adoption.
