JOB PURPOSE: Provide instructional leadership for simulation-based learning in the College of Medicine for Years 1-4. The incumbent supports curriculum objectives by engaging and working with course/clerkship coordinators and medical students in simulation activities to teach and evaluate their clinical skills within and across the four-year program to ensure students meet established performance benchmarks in conjunction with the course/clerkship/rotation.

Requirements

  • MD or PhD degree
  • Experience in professional degree curriculum support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional leadership for simulation-based learning in the College of Medicine for Years 1-4.
  • Support curriculum objectives by engaging and working with course/clerkship coordinators and medical students in simulation activities to teach and evaluate their clinical skills within and across the four-year program to ensure students meet established performance benchmarks in conjunction with the course/clerkship/rotation.
  • Direct and supervise the standardized patient clinical skills education program.
  • Collaborate with simulation center directors and course/clerkship coordinators to ensure simulations align with learning objectives, assessment criteria, and curricular milestones.
  • Demonstrate proper technique and clinical reasoning approaches during simulation sessions.
  • Provide real-time coaching and skill development during standardized patient encounters as needed.
  • Identify students requiring additional support based on performance data (recordings and SOAP notes).
  • Design and delivery remediation sessions for students identified as demonstrating deficiencies.
  • Serve as a member of the HUCM Curriculum and Schedules Committee and serve as a member of the Simulation & Clinical Skills Committee Subcommittee of the HUCM Curriculum Committee to support continuous improvement of simulation-based education.
  • Direct the curriculum for the problem-based learning in the M1 and M2 years. This includes receiving the evaluations, supervising the sessions, directing the content of the Sessions, evaluating the content of the sessions, and assuring alignment with LCME accreditation guidelines.
  • Participate in small group, learning and assisting in evaluation of clinical skills for the M1 and M2 students.
  • Supportive role in academic advising, M4 elective selection, and VSLO (AAMC product for students to apply for M4 away rotations/Sub-Is) lead.
