About The Position

This is a senior leadership role at the intersection of clinical operations, health IT, and organizational strategy. The Director of Clinical Informatics provides strategic and operational leadership for The Centers' Electronic Health Record (EHR) ecosystem, currently operating on OCHIN Epic. This role is accountable for optimizing, governing, and continuously evolving our EHR platform to serve our clinical, operational, and administrative priorities across all service lines. You will serve as the primary liaison between The Centers and OCHIN Epic, lead the EHR Steering Committee, and own the performance and development of the EHR team — including EHR Specialists and our internal build function. You will also own our clinician EHR experience strategy: reducing documentation burden, improving usability, and increasing provider satisfaction across every service line we operate. This is a role that rewards initiative. We are looking for a leader who anticipates organizational needs, introduces innovative EHR capabilities, and drives alignment across a complex, mission-driven environment without waiting to be asked.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Health Information Management, Information Technology, Health Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of EHR leadership experience with demonstrated accountability for governance, optimization, and team management
  • Direct experience with Epic required
  • Demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional EHR governance, including steering committee facilitation
  • Experience presenting to and influencing clinical and executive leadership audiences
  • Engagement with EHR vendor user communities, conferences, and emerging technology evaluation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Epic workflows, build governance, and system administration
  • Understanding of EHR security, access management, Masterfile changes, and department build processes
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare documentation standards, and regulatory compliance as applied to EHR systems
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required
  • Leads with executive presence and clarity — someone who frames uncertainty with structured options and a clear recommendation, not ambiguity.
  • Navigates organizational complexity and physician culture with skill and empathy, building trust-based relationships across difference and advancing priorities through influence rather than authority.
  • Situational leader who adapts their approach to the development level of each team member, creates psychological safety, and models the kind of leadership culture they want to see across the organization.
  • Makes well-reasoned decisions under ambiguity, takes accountability for recommendations, and escalates with a path forward — not just a problem.
  • Maintains active working knowledge of The Centers' service lines and their clinical workflows, frames every EHR decision in the language of patient care and clinical operations, and proactively identifies EHR implications of service line expansion before being asked.
  • Values all people for their unique talents and divergent viewpoints, and actively encourages practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence across their team and in every stakeholder interaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
  • OCHIN Epic experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a community health center, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), or ambulatory behavioral health setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of or active curiosity about AI applications in health IT, including Epic's AI roadmap

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year EHR roadmap aligned with organizational strategy, regulatory requirements, service line growth, and platform evolution.
  • Lead the EHR Steering Committee with discipline and transparency — ensuring structured governance, prioritized agendas, documented decisions, and clear accountability.
  • Partner with the SVP of IT on EHR-related technology investment decisions, providing analysis and recommendations.
  • Direct the maintenance, support, and optimization of the EHR platform and all integrated systems, with a specific focus on clinician experience and documentation burden.
  • Lead the internal EHR build function — new department builds, template development, and Masterfile changes — with an emphasis on building internal capability over time.
  • Manage the EHR vendor relationship, including upgrades, feature implementations, statements of work, and vendor performance accountability.
  • Oversee EHR security administration in partnership with HR and department leaders.
  • Identify, evaluate, and advance EHR-related AI and emerging technology capabilities aligned with our clinical and operational priorities.
  • Develop and execute The Centers' EHR AI adoption strategy — including use case evaluation, piloting, and clear communication of implications for clinical workflows and staff experience.
  • Own the organization's clinician EHR experience strategy, driving personalization at scale and building a formal clinician feedback ecosystem that includes advisory groups, structured rounding, and ongoing feedback loops.
  • Sponsor and expand the Provider Builder and Super User programs, promote strong clinical representation in EHR design, and collaborate with Training and Operations to embed workflow-first adoption strategies for every new capability or upgrade.
  • Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of EHR training programs across all sites and service lines.
  • Lead change management for platform transitions and system changes — ensuring stakeholder readiness and adoption at every level.
  • Directly supervise EHR Specialists and may supervise additional build and support staff as the department grows.
  • Partner with HR on performance management, succession planning, and talent development within the EHR function — building a team that reflects The Centers' values and is equipped to grow with the organization.

Benefits

  • Healing. Teaching. Inspiring.
