About The Position

Berkley Public Entity (BPE) is seeking a Director, Claims - Public Entity to join their team. This is an individual contributor role responsible for the review, oversight, and specific handling of Professional Liability, General Liability, and Automobile claims, particularly those involving law enforcement and sexual abuse within schools, municipalities, and other public entities. Requirements

Bachelor's Degree required.
10+ years of commercial liability claims experience required.
Litigation experience necessary.
Strong experience handling Professional Liability.
Good knowledge of General Liability and Auto.
Proven track record of building and maintaining strong business relationships with insureds, agents, brokers, and TPAs.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Calm under pressure.
Excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks.
Comfortable challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

Review, oversight, and specific handling of Professional Liability, General Liability, and Automobile claims involving law enforcement and sexual abuse for public entities.
Identify and evaluate risk transfer opportunities through contracts, lease agreements, and certificates of insurance.
Evaluate claims for coverage, liability, and damages to negotiate and resolve claims on reasonable terms.
Communicate with insureds, brokers, and TPAs to gather claim information, share loss details, monitor Self Insured Retentions, and determine exposure.
Set reserves within authority or make recommendations for reserve changes to a supervisor.
Retain, direct, and manage litigation counsel through trial, developing and managing strategy for complex litigation.
Attend arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
Prepare timely and accurate reports to management on significant claim developments.
Lead and participate in audits of TPAs to ensure adherence to BPE claims guidelines.
Communicate and collaborate with underwriting, marketing, and senior management.
Contribute to business development and participate in marketing and renewal events.
