About The Position

Capital One Controllers is seeking a culture-led, results driven and strategic leader for the Central Accounting team. This is an exciting time for growth at Capital One and the Director of Central Accounting is a key strategic partner in that transformation, engaging with business leaders in our Technology, Human Resources and Finance organizations, and managing a team of ~20 associates, including three people leaders, to ensure financial activities are recorded accurately and analyzed to provide business insights. The Director must have a willingness to travel within Capital One’s Corporate Office footprint, primarily between Richmond and McLean, VA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 10 years of accounting experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in Public Accounting, Treasury Accounting, Accounting Policy, OR a combination

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
  • 12+ years of accounting experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Public Accounting, Treasury Accounting, Accounting Policy, or a combination
  • 5+ years of experience with FASB, EITF, OCC, SEC, IASB, or a combination

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of on-shore associates and off-shore resources to ensure accurate financial accounting over a host of corporate accounting activities, including compensation, fixed assets, software development and leasing
  • Partner with Business leaders in Finance, Technology, HR and Controllers to assess strategies and determine accounting implications of business objectives, while anticipating issues and obstacles
  • Lead well managed and controlled activities over operational processes, ensuring compliance with the Company’s ICFR framework while delivering successful results through internal audit reviews and SOX compliance testing
  • Partner with project management and business partner teams, to design and implement new business product / program initiatives and processes
  • Display a passion for coaching and developing a team of associates through their leadership style, including developing the leadership of people leaders
  • Serve as a vocal and proactive leader in the Controllers organization, bringing an enterprise-level perspective to Controllership initiatives and talent management
