About The Position

The Indiana University Maurer School of Law is seeking an outstanding lateral candidate to join its faculty as a tenured professor of law and to serve as the Director of the Center for Constitutional Democracy. The Center, founded in 2005, has a strong history of scholarship, teaching, international engagement, and practical assistance focused on constitutional democracy and the rule of law. Its work involves collaborations with scholars, lawyers, judges, public officials, and reformers addressing democratic transition, constitutional reform, institutional fragility, and threats to constitutional government. The Law School is looking for a director to build upon the Center's achievements and to help shape its future direction, focusing on the most critical tools for understanding and supporting democratic constitutional orders both domestically and internationally. Candidates with interests that bridge constitutional democracy with areas like law and political economy, comparative constitutionalism and democratic resilience, or technology, information systems, and democratic governance are encouraged to apply. The Center's mission is broad, encompassing constitutional democracy across various institutions, disciplines, and national borders. The director will be responsible for managing the Center's programs and operations, collaborating with affiliated faculty and students, organizing conferences, lectures, and scholarly/applied projects, representing the Center to diverse audiences, creating professional opportunities for students, and teaching relevant courses.
