About The Position

The Director, Athletics provides leadership and overall direction for SFU's varsity athletics program, ensuring it continues to meet the evolving needs of student-athletes, the university, and the broader community. The role is responsible for long-term planning, maintaining a relevant and financially sustainable sport model, and enhancing the systems that support student-athlete well-being, academic success, and athletic development. The Director works in close collaboration with coaches, staff, alumni, and external partners to strengthen relationships and expand opportunities that advance the varsity program's goals. Additionally, the Director oversees the daily operations of varsity athletics, including compliance with competitive framework regulations, scheduling, event management, communications, and budget management. The Director fosters an environment where student-athletes can excel both on the field and in the classroom, while contributing to the broader objectives of the Athletics and Recreation department and the University.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Kinesiology.
  • Eight years of management experience in a post-secondary athletics program.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices and policies at the NCAA-level.
  • Excellent knowledge of collegiate sport.
  • Excellent project management, budget, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent human resource management, leadership, coaching and team management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) and customer service skills with the ability to build relationships and maintain rapport with stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate coaches and athletes.
