About The Position

The Capital One Legal Department is seeking an experienced and collaborative corporate/commercial contract attorney to join our growing Global Payment Network Legal team. This position involves providing essential legal advice and support on a variety of commercial initiatives and transactions for the Discover Network, working closely with business and legal partners across the organization. The Legal Department is an important voice and strategic partner in all aspects of the business.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
• At least 8 years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination

Responsibilities

• Providing expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of areas impacting commercial relationships, including commercial contracting and risk identification and mitigation
• Negotiating, drafting, and guiding implementation of commercial agreements, working in close collaboration with legal and business colleagues and other subject matter experts
• Supporting credit, fintech and payment innovation related new product initiatives and innovation across the Discover Network
• Supporting the development and maintenance of competitive rule sets for the Discover Network
• Identifying and supporting process improvements to promote agility in legal and related business operations, including contract template improvements
• Partnering collaboratively with other internal counsel and business teams across the enterprise
• Partnering with Risk and Compliance teams to ensure comprehensive support
