The City of Edmonton is seeking an innovative Director to lead its Assessment Valuation section. This role is pivotal in ensuring the fair and equitable administration of property assessments. Reporting to the Branch Manager, Assessment and Taxation, the Director is responsible for the valuation, communication, and defense of the annual assessment roll, which includes over 430,000 properties valued at over $250 billion. This function is foundational for administering over $3 billion in municipal and provincial tax revenues, funding essential municipal services and Edmonton’s contribution to the Provincial Education Property Tax. The Director will provide executive leadership to a section comprising three specialized operational units focused on cost, income, and direct sales mass appraisal methodologies. This role governs highly analytical, expert-level valuation functions, consultation with property owners and professional tax representatives, and complex tribunal defense before the Assessment Review Board.
