About The Position

The Director of AI Platforms will build and lead the AI Platforms team through a shift from supporting internal AI use to powering AI capabilities for Life360 members. The role will advance the agentic product development lifecycle (PDLC), turning early momentum into shared platforms, paved roads, and measurable results, and shape platform support for AI inference and AI-powered product features. The position reports to the Chief Information Security Officer and partners closely with Life360’s leadership team.

Life360’s AI Platforms team builds the shared foundations that enable the company to use AI quickly and safely, including model access, agent tooling, and infrastructure for engineers. Life360 is a remote-first company; positions can be performed remotely within the US unless otherwise specified. The company describes itself as AI native and may ask candidates to demonstrate AI-tool proficiency or complete interview exercises without AI assistance, with recruiter guidance provided during the process.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience.
• 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams that build platforms or infrastructure used by other engineers.
• Experience building and operating production AI systems, such as agentic workflows, LLM integrations, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Working knowledge of MCP and agent orchestration, including how agents connect to internal systems with appropriate controls.
• Familiarity with production AI inference, including serving, latency, reliability, provider management, and cost.
• Experience driving adoption of new engineering practices across a large engineering organization through influence, without becoming a bottleneck.
• Hands-on technical judgment, including comfort reviewing architecture, setting technical direction, and staying close to implementation.
• Comfort working where the platform, operating model, and product use cases are developing concurrently.
• Clear communication with both executives and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Set the AI Platforms team’s direction and roadmap, balancing current internal needs with future product requirements.
• Lead and scale the team through hiring and development of current team members.
• Build and evolve the shared AI platform, including model access and routing, agent runtime, MCP integrations, evaluations, agent identity, and cost controls.
• Define and own AI end-user platforms that enable people to work alongside agents in a multiplayer ecosystem.
• Partner with core teams to evolve the Agentic PDLC, including tools, environments, review practices, and workflows for agents to help plan, write, test, review, and ship code.
• Extend the platform from internal productivity to product use, defining how product teams access, run, and monitor AI inference and AI-powered features in production at member scale.
• Drive adoption through paved paths, reusable skills and components, champions, and enablement that engineers choose to use.
• Partner with Security, Privacy, and Legal to build data handling, auditability, and safeguards into the platform.
• Define and report meaningful outcomes, including adoption, quality, cost per outcome, and time to ship.
• Review designs, unblock teams, and make build-versus-buy decisions as models and tools evolve.
