Director, AI Load Power Strategy

Nscale
•$160,000 - $300,000

About The Position

NScale is seeking a Director of AI Load Power Strategy to lead the development of power strategy for AI/GPU load profiles within NScale's data center portfolio. This role involves translating AI/GPU compute growth scenarios into specific power design and capacity requirements. The Director will lead a team of Staff Engineers responsible for AI load power strategy and analysis, contributing to the company's mission of providing cost-effective, high-performance GPU cloud infrastructure for AI development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8-12+ years of experience in power systems engineering, with exposure to high-density or data center loads.
  • Strong technical understanding of load profiles, power quality, and system studies.
  • Demonstrated success leading or mentoring engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with AI/GPU or HPC data center power design.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain load forecasts based on AI/GPU growth scenarios, translating them into power capacity and design requirements.
  • Analyze unique power profiles of AI/GPU workloads (e.g., transient loads, high density) and their implications for infrastructure design.
  • Partner with Utility Development and Power Procurement to align load strategy with available capacity.
  • Evaluate power supply strategies combining grid supply and on-site/behind-the-meter generation to meet AI/GPU load requirements, balancing reliability, schedule, and cost.
  • Provide engineering leadership on power design requirements driven by AI/GPU load characteristics.
  • Collaborate with Substation & Grid Engineering on design coordination for high-density loads.
  • Support system studies (load flow, short-circuit, reliability) reflecting AI/GPU load profiles.
  • Guide integration of generation, UPS, BESS, and microgrid controllers to improve resilience for AI/GPU workloads.
  • Lead and develop a team of Staff Engineers supporting AI load power strategy.
  • Set technical standards and quality expectations for load analysis and design recommendations.
  • Communicate AI load power strategy and its implications to Development, Operations, and executive leadership.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on AI/GPU load and power topics.
