About The Position

The Director - Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads the engineering and research team that builds and delivers Mayo Clinic DigPath's digital-biology technology platforms, accountable for translating the organization's vision into validated, deployed products. Working closely with the Vice President, Digital Biology, the Chief Medical Officer, and the Chief Science Officer, the Director helps shape technical direction and owns its execution—the roadmap, delivery, and technical quality for DigPath's core model and platform portfolio, including foundation and task-specific models, AI Virtual Cells, biological digital twins, and digital biomarker discovery. Directing a multidisciplinary team of AI/ML engineers, software developers, and research scientists, the Director turns clinical and scientific priorities into engineering execution - partnering with the CMO for clinical relevance and the CSO for scientific rigor - to consistently ship breakthrough tools with speed, technical excellence, and unwavering focus on Mayo Clinic's core value: the needs of the patient come first. The Director partners closely with executive leaders, clinical and business stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure AI initiatives are aligned with enterprise strategy, governance expectations, and operational readiness. The role leads multidisciplinary teams across product, operations, and technology and serves as a key connector between strategy and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and execution of enterprise AI strategy and multi-year roadmaps aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee intake, prioritization, and sequencing of AI initiatives; balance value, feasibility, risk, and capacity across portfolios.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, technical, legal, compliance, and data leaders to advance AI initiatives from concept through deployment.
  • Ensure AI initiatives adhere to governance frameworks, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices.
  • Establish operating rhythms, performance metrics, and reporting mechanisms to track progress, outcomes, and value realization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders; communicate AI strategy, progress, and impact through executive-level updates and presentations.
  • Lead, develop, and support managers and senior professionals; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support budget planning, resource allocation, and business case development for AI initiatives.
