About The Position

ADP is hiring a Director, Actuary - Health & Wealth Benefits organization. In this role, you will apply statistical and mathematical techniques to analyze data and assess risk factors. The ideal candidate will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other teams to develop pricing models, perform risk assessments, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and work with the business to align and develop business strategies for best-in-class pricing and offerings. You will communicate complex ideas simply with excellent verbal and written skills, able to communicate effectively with leadership at all levels and across a broad set of team members, driving transparency on priorities and expected return. You will adapt quickly to changing priorities, with a commitment to manage multiple priorities and the ability to re-assess and pivot as needed. You will take initiative and work independently when needed, with the ability to effectively assess the scope of work and level of effort, to develop models, predict outcomes, and assess future risk and vulnerability. You will be results-driven, proactive and hands-on, understanding statistical packages and having a proven ability to deploy models, evaluate and work with large data sets, and provide actionable insights. As the Director, you will be recognized as an expert within the company. You will have 12+ years of experience in actuary or equivalent. You will have a passion for health insurance--a motivated self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This special someone should have excellent attention to detail, with the ability to learn quickly, keeping up with the ever-evolving healthcare space. Ideal candidates have a history for producing key insights and delivery models to increase accuracy of reporting and advanced analytics in an agile environment to unlock transformational growth.

Requirements

  • Can be fully remote, if the identified candidate is not near an ADP office. Otherwise, we support a hybrid flexible work arrangement; 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
  • 12+ years' experience as an actuary or equivalent relevant role, with a strong background in health insurance.
  • Knowledge of various aspects of healthcare actuarial practice, including pricing, reserving, and forecasting.
  • Experience with cloud database technologies (e.g., AWS) and developing solutions on cloud computing services and infrastructure in the data and analytics space.
  • Proficiency in statistical modeling tools and programming languages; SQL, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA is a plus.
  • Experience working in PEO, Risk analytics, or analytical consulting.
  • Understanding of both fully insured and self-insured Health & Benefits programs with underwriting and claims projection experience.
  • Proven ability to derive new insights by merging and transforming internal and external data sets in business contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and participate on a variety of large projects, including complex analytical initiatives across departments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate optimal design of the data for modeling.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence preferred.
  • Knowledge with dashboarding tools (e.g., Dash, Shiny, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Comfortable using APIs to perform advanced data transformations.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to effectively communicate optimal design of the data for modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experience studies and identify actionable insights to modify subscriber behaviors geared toward improving overall results.
  • Analyze carrier cost ratios based on overall experience, identifying opportunities for improvement among new business and existing client base.
  • Gather and develop benchmarks for purposes of assessing our performance and the potential for improvement.
  • Prepare and present actuarial reports to senior leadership, explaining findings and recommendations in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Offer insights to partners to continuously improve processes through data and innovation.
  • Build strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Partner with the Data & Analytics organization, Data Product teams, and business stakeholders to create roadmaps and execute project plans in fast-paced, agile development environment.
  • Create use-case specific data tables by joining and critical elements across multiple data domains.
  • Assess and determine key data elements needed for evaluation, ensuring it is well-structured, adheres to data quality rules, and traceable from consumption layer back to raw layer.
  • Drive strategic use of data to support business efficiencies and competitive decision-making.
  • Mentor junior team members working within matrix pod to support Advanced Analytics initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends, actuarial methodologies, and best practices through ongoing professional development and education.
  • Ongoing awareness of industry regulations and work to ensure compliance in all actuarial aspects of our products and services. Ensure compliance with SOX, HIPAA, and other regulations.
