About The Position

Americom Technologies LLC is seeking a motivated individual for our OSP Department, which handles underground infrastructure like conduit and fiber placement for telecommunications, data networks, and fire mitigation. With over 40 years of experience, Americom is a leading communications construction company in the Intermountain West, serving various clients including government agencies, educational facilities, and data centers. As a subsidiary of Crestone Services Group, Americom values expertise, integrity, and responsiveness. The Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/Operator is a specialized role focused on utility locating for horizontal/directional drill rigs and operating drilling equipment to create underground bore holes and pull back conduit/pipe.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating a directional drill (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch).
  • Ability to read and comprehend utility locate information.
  • Class A CDL required.

Nice To Haves

  • Competent person certificates with MSHA and OSHA preferred.
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30.
  • Competent Person certification.

Responsibilities

  • Locate utilities for Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable.
  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drill.
  • Assist in potholing and remediation.
  • Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins.
  • Set up equipment including the drill, water tanks, and grounding for the drill.
  • Formulate and mix drilling mud for site conditions.
  • Perform proper reaming and pull back methods for existing conditions.
  • Follow job specifications and company policies.
  • Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
  • Oversee laborers and/or crew members work and monitor time usage.
  • Properly clean and maintain equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct visual inspections.
  • Perform required pre-trip, post-trip inspections and required reports.
  • Perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
  • Communicate with Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs etc.).
  • Comply with safety procedures on and off the project site.
  • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
