About The Position

Shift Staffed Homes (SSH) is one of the many services within Adult Services at New Directions; providing person-centered support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities who may experience complex health issues. SSH strives to promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of adults, supporting their pursuits, interests, goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the adults and their significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring. Shift Staffed Homes operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Requirements

Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
Previous experience working with individuals that have developmental disabilities, mental health issues, anxiety, self-injurious behavior/suicidal ideation, FASD, Autism, behavioral challenges and/or emotional difficulties
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Available to work a variety of shifts on weekdays, weekends and holidays
Able to provide three (3) references, preferably from direct supervisors
Comfortable assisting with personal hygiene routines and activities of daily living
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultures and traditions
An understanding of people who are marginalized
Successful completion of Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks
Satisfactory driver’s abstract

Nice To Haves

Post secondary education in a related field: Disability & Community Support; Community Support Worker; Addictions Counsellor; Certified Healthcare Aide (is considered an asset for some unique positions)
Access to a vehicle
Current First Aid/CPR
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
