About The Position

The Arc of the Ozarks is hiring a Direct Support Supervisor - Behavioral Supports to help lead services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. This is a good fit for someone with direct care experience who is ready to mentor others, stay hands-on, and grow into a stronger leadership role. In this role, you help create a safe, supportive, and structured home environment where individuals can build independence, participate in their community, and receive consistent support from a well-trained team. You will work closely with the Program Supervisor, Behavior Support Technicians, and individuals served to help each person move toward their goals while making sure daily supports, documentation, routines, and team communication stay on track.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 6 months of experience providing direct care, treatment, habilitation, or support in a human services setting
  • Ability to work respectfully with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and document accurately
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, stay organized, and ask for help when needed
  • Licensed and insured driver
  • Ability to obtain a Class E driver’s license if driving individuals served in an Arc vehicle
  • Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work with and respect persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours, to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, policies, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic non-professional techniques used in assisting in the care, treatment and habilitative programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of advanced behavior support techniques.
  • Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision of personnel.
  • Ability to supervise, review and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to administer medications to individuals served, in accordance with agency policies and procedures, after certification by the State of Missouri and facility officials.
  • Ability to implement and supervise individual and group habilitation programs designed to improve each individual served self help skills, economic self sufficiency, socialization, leisure skills, mobility, communication and personal health.
  • Ability to accurately report, record observations, and supervise these activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs., and pull and push items.
  • Ability to maintain a record of punctuality and attendance.
  • Ability to be organized and efficient to complete all listed duties in a timely manner.
  • The Behavioral Technician Supervisor will also need to follow the chain of command and be able to ask for help when needed.

  • Diploma from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Six months experience providing direct assistance in the care, treatment and habilitation in the human service field.
  • Successfully complete a course in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid
  • Successfully complete a 16 hours course in Medication Administration.
  • Successfully complete a 10 course in MANDT System Workshop
  • Successfully complete a course in OSHA regulations on Health and Safety.
  • Successfully complete a course in Abuse & Neglect
  • Successfully complete a course in Electronic Documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, autism, behavioral needs, or psychiatric/behavioral diagnoses
  • Experience mentoring, training, or leading other staff
  • Experience with medication administration, documentation, behavior supports, or residential services
  • Experience in the providing assistance in the care, treatment and habilitation to individuals who have intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Other trainings per department or per home location may be required, refer to policy 8.106 for specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with daily living skills, including hygiene, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, community activities, and personal goals
  • Help implement personal plans, behavioral supports, and individualized strategies
  • Mentor and support Behavior Support Technicians in the home
  • Assist with staff training, communication, documentation, and daily follow-through
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic home environment
  • Observe and document changes in physical condition, behavior, emotional status, and progress toward goals
  • Assist with medication administration after required certification
  • Support crisis prevention and de-escalation using training provided by The Arc
  • Communicate concerns, incidents, and updates to the appropriate supervisor or team member
  • Help ensure individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion
  • Assists with the purchasing of groceries and supplies; assist in the preparation and training in food preparation in compliance with dietary needs; supervises meal activities and assists individuals served as necessary.
  • Provides support to persons served in maintaining a safe and clean environment in their home and training to individuals served in dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, house cleaning, laundry, and other activities of daily living.
  • Ensures the residential setting is safe and clean.
  • Assists the Program Supervisor or other management staff in supervising the application of basic health care for individuals served; administers medications to individuals served in accordance with agency policies and procedures and after certification by Missouri State and Arc officials.
  • Assists with Physicians' appointments as assigned; assuring that documentation is correct.
  • Administers oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, and topical medications, after certification by The Arc of the Ozarks and Missouri State officials.
  • Takes appropriate action in case of fire and/or disaster or other urgent / emergency.
  • Will also create solutions for crisis situations according to Arc policy and crisis prevention and intervention training.
  • Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies in the home and ordering / notifying appropriate parties of needed items so client’s homes always have necessary items.
  • Implements outcomes and strategies of individual personal plans under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, or other staff members; provides supports as identified in the personal plans; attends review meetings when assigned.
  • Observes, reports and records changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of each individual served and progress on outcomes listed in the personal plan.
  • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of necessary records and reports.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees; demonstrating direct support activities to staff.
  • Encourages the development and maintenance of a safe environment for persons served in a residential setting including developing plans for evacuation assistance in case of emergency, using the on-call pager; and training in securing emergency services such as the police, the fire department, and an ambulance.
  • Completes medical/injury incident and behavioral reports when necessary. These forms will be completed and turned in by the end of the working day the incident occurred. The Behavioral Technician Supervisor will need to make sure that the reports are filled out for all medical/injury and behavioral incidents.
  • Provides assistance and planning to individuals served in becoming as mobile in their community environment as possible and assists the individuals’ requiring supports in participating in varied meaningful vocational, domestic, and leisure activities in the community of their choosing.

  • Assists the Program Supervisor or other management staff in the management and supervision of a residential setting; makes frequent checks in the assigned area, schedules staff in accordance with the team budget; makes work assignments, inspects and evaluates the work of subordinates, reviews and instructs personnel in the care, treatment and habilitation of persons served.
  • Completes or supervises all monthly filing; monthly summary sheets, MAR’s, Nurse consultations, Monthly Budgets, Accident/Injury Reports, Behavior Incident Reports.
  • In the absence of the Program Supervisor or other management staff, supervises direct support staff and evaluates performance and quality standards in accordance with established agency policy.
  • Circulates and implements directives of Program Supervisor or other management staff and reports rule infractions, complaints from individual’s served/parents/ guardians/employees, and related incidents to Program Supervisor or other management staff in a timely manner.
