About The Position

This position is located in Warner Robins, GA. The Direct Support Staff/SSTW aids clients in their own homes and in the community to help them function more safely and independently. The role involves facilitating physical, recreational, social, and educational activities, and providing clients with a positive role model. The staff member will identify community services to meet client needs, maintain liaison with other agencies and professionals, and recognize and manage potential crisis and emergency situations, including dispensing medication and handling aggressive behavior. The role also involves providing input to counselors and other professionals for client program plans, monitoring client well-being, assisting with daily life skills and behavior management training, and helping clients with basic cooking and attending appointments, including providing transportation. Ensuring safe transportation by maintaining proper driver's licenses and conducting daily vehicle safety checks is the responsibility of the worker. The position also includes providing emotional support and feedback to clients and their families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED AND one year experience in a social service-related position OR completion of two years of college with at least 15 credit hours in a social service-related field.
  • Proficiency in keyboard use.
  • Valid, unrestricted GA Driver’s License.
  • Any male applicant between 18 and 26 years of age must present proof of having registered with the Selective Service as required by federal and state law, or of being exempt from such registration.

Responsibilities

  • Aids client in their own homes and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently.
  • Facilitates physical, recreational, social and education activities.
  • Provides clients with a positive role model.
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet client’s needs.
  • Maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
  • Recognize potential crisis situations, analyzes such situations accurately, develops strategies to deal with such situations, and informs the key worker, supervisor and manager when such incidents arise.
  • Recognize potential emergency situations accurately, and develops strategies to deal with such situations i.e., dispensing medication, dealing with client’s aggressive behavior no harm comes to the client, staff and / or the public.
  • Assists case management team in identifying potential problems.
  • Provides input to counselors and other professionals with regard to the development of the client program plans.
  • Monitor client’s wellbeing.
  • Assist clients with daily life skills and/ or behavior management training.
  • Assist clients with basic cooking, etc.
  • Assists clients in attending appointments when necessary and provides transportation.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to clients (and their families and friends where concerned).
