About The Position

The Direct Support Professional provides direct care to intellectually disabled adults in a 24-hour supervised living arrangement, ensuring their safety and well-being while treating them with respect and dignity. The role involves promoting independence and community integration by helping residents develop everyday life skills. Support is provided according to each resident's Individualized Support Plan, helping them face daily challenges and opportunities with the assistance of dedicated staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a valid PA driver's license and meet the guidelines to be accepted on the agencies vehicle insurance policy.
  • Upon hire, provide a current physical and Mantoux test, and then ongoing as required by the Department of Public Welfare (DPW).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Driver's License
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA

Nice To Haves

  • Prior human service or caregiving experience is preferred, but it not required.
  • Prior human services experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and attend activities with transportation plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of all resident files and plans.
  • Complete 24 hours of staff development annually.
  • Help residents follow balanced or doctor-ordered diets.
  • Accompany and assist residents with appointments.
  • Teach and assist with hygiene, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc.
  • Stay calm and supportive in emergencies.
  • Ensure residents' safety and well-being.
  • Perform regular cleaning tasks.
  • Follow individual support plans.
  • Administer medication as trained.
  • Provide guidance for residents' growth.
  • Handle cash, file paperwork, and attend meetings.
  • Use various software applications.
  • Report hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain regular attendance and stay awake during shifts.
  • Operate vehicles for resident transport.
  • Assist with client program documentation.
  • Work independently and maintain professionalism.
  • Provide consistent support, including CPR and first aid.
  • Keep the environment clean and safe.
  • Help residents with banking and budgeting.
  • Complete all required paperwork timely.
