The Direct Support Professional assists and monitors clients in various aspects of daily living, including self-care (dressing, bathing, toileting), meals (ensuring family-style dining and adherence to diet orders), housekeeping (clothing care, house cleaning, yard care), and meal preparation. The role also involves assisting with medication administration, implementing behavior programs, collecting data, and following safety procedures. Professionals will participate in active treatment plans, record data, and implement service goals. They are expected to be part of the interdisciplinary team, communicate client information to supervisory staff, and transport/monitor clients during community outings, school, and day program activities. Continuous staff development and competency testing are required.
