We are seeking a Direct Support Professional who will work with an interdisciplinary treatment team to carry out a variety of therapeutic disciplines to ensure that each person served at the South Dakota Development Center (SDDC) will develop to their fullest potential. This position will positively impact the lives of the persons served by carrying out individual training, behavior management, and therapy programs. The Direct Support Professional will enhance the well-being of the persons served while providing continual guidance regarding life skills, academic skills, and work skills to ensure appropriate social interaction. This is a 0.9 nearly full-time position that works three 12-hour shifts per week, these .9 positions are paid 10% more per hour than the standard 40 hours per week positions, benefits eligible, condensed workweek position with the Department of Human Services (DHS) at the SDDC. Work schedule options include Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday. Starting pay at $19.97 plus a $1.00 shift differential on Fridays and Mondays and $2.00 per hour shift differentials for Saturdays and Sundays. Requirements

  • Knowledge of techniques used in conducting teaching plans for people with developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of facility routine.
  • Knowledge of basic social skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of basic human behavior.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic health care.
  • Knowledge of protective health measures.
  • Knowledge of physical and emotional needs of people served.
  • Must apply online.
  • Must undergo a background investigation.
  • Must undergo an abuse and neglect screening.
  • Must complete a drug screening.
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a variety of therapeutic disciplines to ensure that each person served at the South Dakota Development Center (SDDC) will develop to their fullest potential.

  • Address the physical and emotional needs of people served.
  • Make effective decisions in emergencies.
  • Lead the people in assigned tasks.
  • Provide academic guidance.
  • Follow established policies and procedures.
  • Carry out procedures of teaching or treatment plans with people served.
  • Accurately observe and report individuals' behavior and other responses to treatment.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and persons served.
  • Provide work direction to staff regarding methods to assist people with developmental disabilities as needed.
  • Prepare routine reports.
