About The Position

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play a crucial role in helping ResCare Community Living provide compassionate care to clients. DSPs are the heart of the company, valued for their compassion, dependability, and care. This specific role is within crisis homes, providing support and supervision to individuals with disabilities and/or mental illness who require crisis intervention services and/or behavioral programs to stabilize and transition back to permanent housing. The client population includes individuals with severe mental illness, those requiring crisis intervention and physical interventions, and those with challenging behaviors such as property destruction, manipulation, elopement, paranoia, substance abuse, isolation, and self-injury. The role emphasizes maintaining safety, supporting individuals to achieve their best, reducing distress, and providing purpose through person-centered planning, crisis plans, and behavioral objectives. Staff are expected to use positive redirection and behavior modification programs, and work with individuals experiencing various mental health conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in a group home, home-like setting
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external
  • 3 years experience working with individuals with severe mental illness, crisis, physical interventions, and behavior supports.
  • At least 3 years experience in using positive redirection and behavior modification programs.
  • Working with individuals with mental health conditions including bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, antisocial personality disorders, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performing personal care tasks, including feeding, ambulation, and medical monitoring
  • Assist with fostering positive relationships between individuals served and their housemates
  • Ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe environment
  • Encouraging self-help activities
  • Accompanying clients to scheduled appointments
  • Implement formal/informal crisis plans, program plans and/or behavioral objectives using person-centered planning.
  • Maintain documentation, record keeping and participate in regular meetings and complete required training.
  • Take initiative when responding to a crisis, monitor the safety of person's served, and provide support and supervision in a positive therapeutic manner with the least restrictive methods of positive intervention.
  • Enable person's served to make choices in all areas of their lives.
  • Encourage use of public resources and recreational facilities; provide community integration opportunities.
  • Provide transportation for appointments and activities.
