St.Amant supports over 5,000 people in Manitoba with developmental disabilities, autism and acquired brain injury. Reporting to the Case Supervisor, Community Services, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for the delivery of care and support to children and youth with intellectual disabilities. The Direct Support Professional provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of the organization and provincial legislation and regulations. This is a casual position located in the Kildonan Area in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Approximately 20 hours biweekly, with the potential for additional hours. Applicants for this position would need to have a flexible schedule as required shifts vary from days, evenings and weekends. Shift lengths may vary between 3-5 hours. Child/children requiring support are aged between 10-12 years old. You may often be working collaboratively alongside other family members within the home. If you do not have a driver's license, we will not be moving your application forward. The DSP ensures that services are provided in ways that: Optimizes dignity, self-determination and attainment of personal outcomes Maximizes normal environmental and lifestyle features Are respectful of the foster home as a private residence Includes relevant education and training

Requirements

  • Grade XII Diploma (or G.E.D.)
  • Certification in CPR and Emergency First Aid
  • Successful completion of St.Amant training requirements during trial/probationary period (e.g. Specialized Behaviour Management Training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Medical Orientation, etc.)
  • Minimum of one year’s experience providing services to individuals with disabilities
  • Knowledge of current trends and services for individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to follow individualized program plans
  • Positive, energetic, self-directed
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong person-centered focus
  • Physical ability and emotional stability to support physical needs and respond appropriately to challenging behavior of people supported
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member and work collaboratively with foster providers, clinicians, professional staff, collateral agencies and families
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possesses ability to identify and respond effectively to high-risk situations
  • Access to a telephone
  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract in good standing.
  • Proof of 2 million liability and all-purpose insurance
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.
  • Completion of a series of Occupational Health checks, including confirmation of immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in both official languages (French/English) would be considered an asset.
