About The Position
WellLife Network is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide hands-on care, encouragement, and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities and other support needs. The role supports individuals in living as independently as possible in their homes and communities, while helping them achieve their goals and build fulfilling lives. The position is located at Lou Weinberg IRA in Springfield Gardens, New York, and is listed as relief/on-call. The hourly salary range is $19.46–$19.46. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency diploma.
- Fluency in English for client communication.
- For driving positions, a valid New York State driver’s license and at least two years of driving experience; this does not apply to ND positions.
- For driving positions, comfort operating a large vehicle.
- Patience, compassion, and dedication to empowering others.
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or other disabilities; preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Help with meal preparation and household chores, and maintain a safe, comfortable home environment.
- Administer medications as directed and support individuals with medical appointments and treatment plans.
- Assist with walking, transfers, and mobility aids, ensuring individuals can navigate their environments safely.
- Implement respectful behavioral support strategies and provide encouragement and reassurance.
- Plan and participate in recreational, educational, and social activities, and encourage involvement in community programs and events.
- Assist individuals with communication tools or techniques and advocate for their needs, rights, and access to services.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, therapists, and other team members to support holistic care.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily notes, progress reports, incident reports, and other required documentation in electronic systems.
