About The Position

Legacy Treatment Services also offers a community setting for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are looking for direct support professionals to make a positive difference with the Consumers in the program. The goal of each Consumer is to learn independence, which is driven by their Behavior Support Plan. You will work within a diverse population within the special needs community and their families. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR High School Diploma/GED plus three (3) years of experience working with children or adolescents
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to work with children or adolescents in a residential treatment setting
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for making a positive impact in the lives of youth
  • Ability to frequently lift a minimum of fifty pounds (50lbs).
  • Must pass and maintain certification in mandated trainings including but not limited to Crisis Management, CPR and First Aid.
  • Operate vehicles in accordance with applicable laws, insurance company requirements and Aurora Staffing Policies.
  • Must be cleared for employment under the Criminal History Background Checks (CHRI).
  • Clearance from the state of N.J. Department of Human Services Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (N.J.A.C. 10:44D) is required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete any other training(s) as assigned or deemed necessary by Aurora Staffing, DDD/DCF, and/or the specific program element.
  • Must pass a drug screen pre-employment and participate in random drug screens as assigned.
  • Be cleared through the Child Abuse Registry Check (CARI)

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships and meaningful connections with children and adolescents.
  • Mentor and encourage youth through daily challenges while promoting positive decision-making.
  • Support community integration by accompanying children and adolescents to school activities, shopping, medical appointments, family visits, and recreational outings.
  • Teach and reinforce essential life skills, including cooking, laundry, cleaning, and personal responsibility.
  • Use positive reinforcement and crisis de-escalation techniques to help children and adolescents succeed.
  • Participate in recreational activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model while helping children and adolescents develop independence, confidence, and healthy social skills.
  • Assist with bathing, feeding, grooming and other daily living skills.
  • Assist with medication administration.
