The Direct Support Professional at YAI is a crucial role dedicated to assisting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities. This position involves upholding personal rights, providing emotional support, and building positive relationships, all while fostering personal growth, social responsibility, and independence. Responsibilities include supporting individuals in meeting personal goals, engaging in respectful communication, encouraging socialization, and facilitating community connections. The professional ensures the health, wellness, and safety of individuals, manages crisis situations, and implements person-centered plans, including Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Individualized Service Plans (ISPs). YAI, founded in 1957, has grown to support over 20,000 people with various I/DD across Downstate New York and Northern New Jersey, offering more than 300 programs.
