About The Position

We are looking for a calm, patient, and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) who understands that dementia can affect how a person thinks, communicates, and responds to others. This is a relationship-based position supporting an individual in their home and community. The right person will be able to recognize changes in mood or behavior, stay calm during difficult moments, and provide support without arguing or escalating the situation.

Requirements

• Experience working with people with dementia or dementia-related behaviors
• Understands that behavior is often a form of communication
• Can remain calm and patient when someone is confused, upset, repetitive, or resistant
• Knows how to redirect rather than argue or confront
• Able to notice changes in behavior and respond early
• Dependable, attentive, and engaged during the entire shift
• Good communication skills and works well with a support team
• Reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

• First Aid and CPR certification

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and a calm, supportive presence
• Help with daily routines, home maintenance and fun activities
• Support the individual during changes in mood, confusion, or behavior
• Recognize triggers and early signs that the person may become upset or overwhelmed
• Use patience, redirection, reassurance, and other positive approaches
• Help prevent situations from becoming more difficult
• Support personal care and daily living needs, as needed
• Encourage and engage with safe activities, recreation, and community outings
• Monitor safety and well-being throughout the shift
• Complete clear and accurate shift documentation
