About The Position
A 53-year-old female in the Syracuse area (near Comstock) is looking for a Direct Support Professional to assist her with money management, pursuing her hobbies and interests, and learning new things in the community. She enjoys going to the mall, the zoo, and the library. She likes shopping, animals, and playing games on her mobile devices. This individual does not need transportation and chooses one location per day, which can be discussed prior to going out. The ideal candidate must be able to physically push a wheelchair during the duration of the shift but will not need to use their own vehicle to transport her, as she will have a ride arranged. The ideal candidate is good with communication with the individual and their certified residential program to make arrangements and plan out each day. The ideal candidate is patient, encouraging, and able to provide verbal reassurance or verbal re-direction as needed. This is a part-time position, but additional hours are available with other people receiving services at the agency.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to work independently in the person’s home and/or community
- Reliable with effective communication and organizational skills
- New York State Driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required; acceptable driving record required
- Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community
- Effective communication and organizational skills required
- Flexibility with assignments and schedule required
- Reliable transportation to arrive to job site at scheduled time
- Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by ARISE/EFR'S technology policy
Nice To Haves
- No experience required but experience working with people with disabilities preferred
- Experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities preferred
