About The Position

Our Services for People with Disabilities team is searching for dedicated, compassionate caregivers to work full-time and part-time as a Direct Support Professional in the Des Moines area. The Iowans we serve are seeking a life of greater confidence and independence, and it's our privilege to empower them toward success every day. This is a great position to jumpstart your career in human services field & has opportunities for advancement! Available hours: 1st shift (6:30am to 2:30pm) and/or 2nd shifts (2:30 to 10:30pm). Must be available and willing to work some weekend hours. As one of Iowa's most trusted human services agencies, LSI has a legacy of serving children, adults, and families for more than 160 years. Our Services for People with Disabilities wrap care around individuals across the state, from providing occasional respite care or weekly services, to 24/7 support in either a shared apartment environment or one-on-one care through our hourly supported community living (SCL) program. Requirements

High school diploma or a GED.
Valid driver's license.
Auto insurance.
Good driving record.
Ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with Supported Community Living (SCL) or with people with disabilities is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Works with individuals with an intellectual disability or chronic mental illness.
Works with 2-3 adults that require 24-hour support, will work in their home and out in the community.
Provide support, assistance, and instruction in learning independent living skills like: Money management, Socialization, Cooking, Personal hygiene.
Be an advocate for the individual in communicating their needs, self-expression, and goals.
Provide transportation, as needed.
