This role involves assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities while upholding their personal rights. The Direct Support Professional provides emotional support, builds positive relationships, and helps individuals meet personal goals for a high quality of life. This includes engaging in respectful communication, encouraging socialization, and facilitating community connections. The position requires constant supervision and care for individuals, maintaining program guidelines, and ensuring their protection. Responsibilities also include facilitating fire safety training, identifying potential harm to self or others, and escalating concerns appropriately. Ensuring health, wellness, and safety involves appropriate supervision, managing crisis situations, and adhering to policies and regulations. Support is provided in various settings according to individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing core competencies for individuals with diverse needs. The role demands adherence to person-centered plans, including protective oversight (IPOPs), Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), Staff Action, and/or Life Plans. Maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, utilizing safe handling procedures, and implementing infection control protocols are essential. Specific tasks include assisting with personal care, ADLs, hygiene, laundry, and housekeeping. Medication administration must be done as prescribed. The role involves teaching skills, supporting advocacy, communication, and dispute resolution. Facilitating ethical decision-making and planning/preparing meals according to dietary needs are also key. Transporting and escorting individuals for various activities and appointments is required, as is assisting with purchases and safeguarding funds. Developing specialized clinical knowledge for specific needs (e.g., autism, complex medical needs) and implementing Behavior Support Plans are crucial. Data collection on observable behavior, reporting changes, and collaborating with clinical and leadership teams are part of the role. Teamwork, feedback, and a solution-oriented approach are expected. Completing and maintaining all necessary trainings and certifications is mandatory. Daily review and entry into communication logs, electronic health records (e.g., Digital Agency, eMAR), and other documentation for compliance and billing are required. Foundational teaching skills and understanding behavior as communication are necessary. Compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, is essential. Reporting maintenance and safety concerns to program leadership is expected. Consultation with program leadership, clinical staff, and direct support staff ensures quality care. Utilizing approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques for interventions is required. Providing coverage for other staff, potentially at other locations or during emergencies, may be necessary to maintain minimum coverage levels. Participation in treatment plan development and operating YAI vehicles for transportation may be required for certain assignments. All other assigned duties will be performed.
