About The Position

Direct Support Professional has direct responsibility for the guidance of the adult(s) in Day Support or Community Engagement. This role is responsible for the physical care of individuals, performing activities and duties to help individuals develop acceptable habits and attitudes, and assisting with the management of individual behavior, including helping the individuals meet the outcomes of any service or behavioral plan. The DSP ensures that the daily needs of the individuals served are met fully, escorts individuals to and from community activities, and conducts head counts at the beginning, ending, and periodically throughout the day to verify the presence and well-being of individuals. The role also involves following established procedures for reporting behavioral changes or other concerns, cleanliness, physical injuries/conditions, and demeanor, completing data collection in accordance with the person-centered plan, and performing required housekeeping duties to assure a clean, safe, and healthful environment. Additionally, the DSP attends staff meetings and in-service training as assigned, plans and implements special activities, and completes special projects and other activities assigned.

Requirements

  • Have a high school diploma, or GED, or 2 years of documented experience working with a family member, a friend, or other persons with intellectual disabilities in a nursing home, facility, group home, or in-home setting.
  • This position requires the successful completion of criminal history and central registry background investigations
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Complete data collection in accordance with the person-centered plan.

  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as assigned.
  • Plan and implement special activities.
  • Complete special projects and other activities assigned.
